Year reflection

The year has been quite fun and enjoyable and WAY better then last year. Some of the major events of the year have been going on the overnight-er,ski trip, sailing, cross country, elgregoe, swimming sports, athletics, went to the regent theater  twice, bottle top art,did a first aid course, pet day and shantytown. For me the Chromebook has had a 2 steps forward 1 step back scenario on me as i have picked up a lot of skills and opened a new way of learning. But sometimes some of the activities that we got told to do on the Chromebook i would prefer to do on pen and paper. At maths time this year i thought that it stepped up in difficulty this year and pushed me to the limits which i found quite interesting. Technology this year a new experience made me more of a social person and opened a new way of thinking.Next year i am looking forward
to camp and High school entrance exams. overall 2016 was a fun school year and hopefully 2017 can top it.

Pots and pans drumming

Yesterday we made our final pieces for the International pots and pans playoff. For the past couple of weeks we have been watching lessons of people teaching us how to drum but with pots and pans. The Rad Rhythm competition where people from all around the world enter a preform a piece of music made from drumming on pots and pans. They taught us different patterns and the basics of drumming. Then we made our own pieces of pots and pans music. Some of the cool things we learnt was that you can pick it up quite quickly. The rhythms were the same in 95% of drumming pieces. My favorite parts were putting together and finding new ways to make patterns. I would definitely do it again and if we could do it next year it would be awesome. I found the process of making the rhythms quite fun but unfortunately at the worst timing ever in the world i got sick.  If anyone reading this has spare time find some pots and pans and sticks and start making music.

Spring Time

Where blossoms bloom,
Becoming day at night,
In the season of Halloween,
Where people get a fright.

Animals being born,
Waiting for the summer,
This heavy rain
Is a real bummer.

Birds chirping,
Flowers in the tree,
What do you know
The cat’s next to me.

Barbecues outside,
Sun beaming down,
Bees flying,
Dad looks like a clown.

Vegetables growing,
Want the pool,
This is why
Spring is cool.

If there was a word
To describe this season,
I could say anything
Without reason.

First aid workshop

On the 2nd of august we had Denise from ST Johns visit to teach us about first aid. We learnt how to do CPR, The doctors ABC, what to do in a scenario and a game about a patient named Joe on a hike. The game we played about Joe on the hike and you had 2 minutes to pick all of your supplies. Then you had to pick the supplies you would use for different scenarios and once you used them you cant use them again. Then we practiced CPR on a mannequin and I learnt that cpr breaks someones ribs. I think maybe next time we could have learnt things that we didn't learn last year. Overall it was good that Denise taught us about first aid and I hope she comes back next year.

Whare of well being.

This morning in class we all made an individual whare of well being. My four walls for my whare represent the emotional wall, the social wall, the physical wall and the spiritual wall. My emotional wall means that it is OK to show you emotions to let people know how your feeling. My spiritual wall means that i can see things that people can't because if you look closely you can see 2 walls dividing and one sees things while the other person doesn't. My social wall represents me and my friends and that we can bond really easily. And my last wall which is the physical wall means for me to be happy and healthy. To make myself do this i go for a 2 Kilometer run every day it is fine after school and control what I eat. Those are what my 4 walls of my whare mean.

Elgregoe visit

This morning at lake brunner school we had elgregoe come to visit. The point of his show was to preform magic tricks and get an anti bullying message through. Some of his key catchphrases were: Use your wits, walk away, ignore, talk about it and stop. Another one of is messages are somewhere on this photo can you see what what they are?

I thought his show was quite good and the best it has been in a while. His bullying is not OK message can really get through if you listen and get the concept. Overall I though it was quite good and I hope he comes back next year with bigger and better messages and tricks.

Tech Space visit

On this Tuesday the 24th of may Lake Brunner School went for a visit to tech space. We used all sorts of high tech equipment such as 3 dimensional printers, Infrared sensors, A touchscreen TV and lots more. It is a really good place to learn tech tips here and there. In the future i think we should incorporate the use of the 3 D printer. Here are some photos of our day.

Niko and Jaymin are using a device that you don't need to use the keyboard with.

Our class made a  3 D print of our class name

In this video Eric shows us how to use a cool infrared sensor that detects you hand and pops up on the screen

This little device that Bridget is holding can recognize how fast, what angle, how many steps and much more while connected to Bluetooth. you see the statistics on the ipad.

Great Spotted Kiwi

A kiwi is a flightless bird that lives in only New Zealand. They are in the emu, moa and the ostrich family. There are 5 main types of kiwi. One of these is the great spotted kiwi which is based on the west coast of the South Island. The great spotted kiwi has quirky characteristics, lives in the mountains and bush with many predators and prey.

The great spotted kiwi lives in the bushy and a mountainous habitat.it generally lives in burrows made under old trees or under the roots of a big tree. Each burrow is 3 metres long with a sleeping room for the kiwi at the end. It can be found in these 3 natural locations. These are:north west Nelson, the Paparoa range and Arthur's pass. The great spotted kiwi lives in a habitat with lots of bush and many predators and prey.

The great spotted kiwi has many predators and prey. Its predators are stoats, ferrets, weasels, pigs, brush possums, cats and dogs, which can even kill adult kiwi. In places that kiwi predators are controlled kiwi hatching increases 50-60%. The maximum penalty for killing a kiwi can be up to 1 year in jail of a hefty $100’000 fine.

Kiwi are endangered and protected and we need to save them.
